Family Service Hours

In accordance with the Notre Dame tradition of service and family, the school asks for the involvement of each student’s family in various activities that serve the needs of the school and help to build a sense of community. 
  • Each family is expected to perform volunteer service for the benefit of the school and its programs and execute at least 15 service hours this 2011- 2012 school year.
  • For the purpose of Family Service Hours, the “school year” runs from June 30 through May 31st of the subsequent year. Excess hours accrued in one year do not carry over to a subsequent year.
  • Any member of a family, 14 years of age or older, may earn service hours. Students may not count Family Service Hours towards the fulfillment of a Notre Dame High School Service Learning Project.
  • Hours are not transferable between families.
  • Each family is responsible for keeping a record of hours (on the honor system) and for submitting the record sheet to the main office by the announced due date in order to receive credit for their hours.

Notre Dame High School shall provide a reporting form that is available in the main office of the school or it can be downloaded by clicking here.

Families unable or unwilling to fulfill the Family Service Hours requirement are required to pay a fee of $15.00 per hour for those hours not completed, up to a maximum of $225.00 "In-Lieu-Of" fee.

Families that do not meet their minimum hourly requirement by May 31, 2012 will be billed for unfulfilled hours at a rate of $15 per hour. The school reserves the right to assess late fees for unpaid balances.

Activities which qualify for Family Service Hours include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Attendance at Parents' Club or Boosters' Club meetings: two service hours per meeting for attendance;
  • All Notre Dame High School fundraising activities (coordinating, planning, record-keeping, or working an event);
  • Providing transportation for students to and from field trips (Finger-printing required);
  • Providing transportation for team members (in addition to your student) to away contests; (Finger printing required)
  • Working at home athletic events or school plays, and events such a Grandparents’ Day,   Boosters' Golf Tournament, Crab Feed, Notre Dame- Palma Event, Fashion Show etc.;
  • Assistance working in the main office or work taken home from the office (e.g., stuffing
    envelopes, folding forms);
  • Assisting Campus Ministry with student activities such as school or class liturgies, retreats, and/or providing baked goods for various school events.

Earn Family Service Hours by Helping the Athletic Department


Family Service hours can be earn by working at the following sports events:

• (Fall Season)
Volleyball - work the door and collect admission fees.
                             Try using our new online sign-up tool.

As the dates of each of the contests listed below draws closer, an online sign-up form will become available.

• (Winter Season)
Basketball - work the door and collect admission fees.
Basketbal - work the Bob Hagen JV Basketball Tournament.

• (Spring Season)
Track  - looking for timers, running events, and set out equipment.
Swimming - looking for timers.
Sea Otter Classic fundraiser - Date:TBA

• In addition:
Sports Award Banquets (Fall, Winter & Spring) - help with set-upup, serving and clean-up.

Hours can also be earned by becoming a driver to transport athletes to away contests.  You must be fingerprinted and have complete a volunteer information packet.  If you are interested in becoming a driver, please email tsonniksen@notredamesalinas.org.

Earn 2 Family Service Hours for each Parents' Club meeting you attend.  Monthly meetings are held in the Staff Lounge in Billiart Hall and begin at 5:30 p.m.

Earn 2 Family Service Hours for each Boosters' Club meeting you attend.  Meetings are monthly with the exception of September 2011 and April 2012.  The meeting location is the Staff Lounge in Billiart Hall with a start time of 5:25 p.m.
